How Do Online Dog Obedience Classes Work?

  • Courses last 6 weeks in length and can be completed entirely "on your time" - there are no scheduled times in which you have to be online

  • There are 2 options for taking the classes - 1) Facebook private group "class"              2) Individual e-mail correspondence

  • Educational material is uploaded to the class Facebook group and/or e-mailed directly to students at the beginning of each week.

    • "Discussion topics" consist of training advice, demonstration videos, dog development and psychology information and other related topics.

    • "Self-Study" assignments are provided for students to practice at home with their dogs, with suggestions and demonstrations on introducing and practicing commands.

    • "Progress Posts" are the "homework" assignment posts, photos or videos that I ask students to complete and either post to the private Facebook group or send to me via e-mail. Every assignment turned in is reviewed by me and comments are offered. The Progress Post assignments provide opportunities for self-review, meeting goals, demonstrating challenges or victories and documentation of progress.

  • Participants can review, practice and post their assignments at their convenience each week, with assignments due each Monday.

Who are online dog obedience classes for?

Online Dog Obedience classes may be ideal for the dog owner who:
* Lives far away from any traditional dog obedience class locations
* Has a dog who does not do well around other dogs or in a "class" environment
* Has an unpredictable schedule that makes it difficult to attend in-person dog training classes
* Is looking for something new, educational and flexible to advance their dog's training skills

Online Dog Obedience classes are probably not ideal for:
* The puppy in need of the socialization benefits from a traditional dog training class
* An Amish friend with no internet access
* A cousin who does not have a dog
* The 3 year old who cannot read or type yet
